My quick change river feeder rig

Modern feeder fishing is all about speed. After trail and error over the past months I feel I have settled on a rig that ticks all the required boxes for river feeder fishing for species large or small.
This rig is all about being tangle free and adaptable whilst staying as simple as possible.
This rig allows me to change hook lenghs and feeders quickly without any hassle and makes the whole process of making changes as fast as possible. As we all know that speed is now very important especially when match fishing.
By constructing this rig with a back stop in the shape of a small float stop it also allows the rig to be quickly changed from a free running rig into a bolt rig depending on which is better on the day and the target species.

Step 1

I start by sliding a single rubber float stop on to the mainline. This stop allows me to fish the rig free running by pushing the stop up the line. The stop can also be pulled down tight to the feeder locking it in place creating a bolt rig affect if bites from small species become hard to connect with.

Step 2

I then slide a small snap swivel onto the mainline which allows me to change feeders weights and sizes quickly. This is followed by two more rubber float stops which keep the feeder in place.

Step 3

The next step is the boom section of the rig which gives it the all important anti tangle properties. A small quick change swivel is threaded on to the mainline and a large overhand loop of around 6 to 8 inches is created.

Step 4

I then take the original loop and make a second overhand loop. This loop is then tightened down around half way down the original larger loop creating a series of two smaller loops.

Step 5

As shown in the picture above this simple overhand loop method produces a very stiff boom which will help kick the hooklengh away from the feeder and reduce tangles. The quick change swivel means changing hooklenghts takes just a matter of seconds with no need for the rig to be broken down.

Finished rig

The finished rig is both very simple yet very effective. As you can see from the photos above the boom created from the double overhand loop creates a great angle that naturally kicks the hooklenght away from the feeder. This creates a versatile and tangle free rig that I use for all of my river fishing apart from if I'm using really big feeders, in this case I use my simple big fish feeder rig found by clicking the link below.

This rig has worked exceptionally well on the trent recently with short sessions resulting in catches of good quality roach
